Many people assume that teak is just good for use in the garden or on the patio where it has to withstand the elements. This is not the case however. Teak is equally useful as a material for making furniture that is to be used indoors as well. Consider your coffee table.
It is likely to be the victim of coffee (or any other beverage) spills and is the centerpiece of your living room. Glass is good; however it has the capacity to smash. It also has relatively sharp edges and is not really good something you want sitting in the middle of your living room if you have young children.
Focusing on the coffee table – a Teak Coffee Table has the ability to last quite a long time. Because it is out of direct sunlight it will also preserve its original color for quite a long time (ultraviolet light has the capacity to diminish the original color of teak).
You will need to ensure that you get a sealed Teak Coffee Table that has a layer of teak varnish on it in the event coffee is spilled on the table. Teak is quite a heavy, durable wood and a teak coffee table will last multiple lifetimes as long as it is well maintained. There are various ways to treat and care for teak. You may need to purchase some teak varnish (not regular varnish) and sealant to treat the coffee table yearly so that it keeps its near new luster.
Teak furniture is not only about the quality of the wood. It looks great as well. Furniture should last a long time. A teak coffee table is likely to last long enough to become an antique. You will pay good money for a teak coffee table so you will expect it to withstand the ravages of time.
It is not a soft wood either – which is a good thing. Soft wood has the capacity to warp or become dented quite easily. Because a Teak Coffee Table is likely to be used fairly often, you will want something hard enough to allow guests to comfortably place their drinks upon it without being worried about their cup leaving a mark.
If you are in the market for any interior (or exterior) furniture, have a look at the range of teak wood furniture that is available to you. Try and steer clear of cheap woods that have a tendency to crack or become damaged easily. Particle board or pine doesn’t have the same longevity as teak so disregard them as options unless you are on a fairly tight budget.
Even if you are on a tight budget you are better served buying tube metal furniture or something of that nature rather than cheap wooden furniture. You will not want to replace your furniture in a hurry and it is quite an expense no matter the material that it is manufactured out of. Try and purchase things that are likely to last rather than things you will need to replace a year after purchasing them.
